OPEN CALL: 2019 Helmholtz AI projects

Helmholtz AI is looking for ‘high risk, high gain’ cross-field research projects in applied ML and AI. Up to 200k € in funding! Deadline: 17 Jan 2020

This autumn marks the start of this funding line (funded by the Initiative and Networking Fund) that derives directly from a bottom-up approach within the Helmholtz Association and that is at the core of our mission: fostering cross-field creativity by stimulating collaborative research projects in applied machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI).

The objective of Helmholtz AI Projects is facilitating research that addresses cross-center ML/AI challenges and methods; they are seed-like collaborative projects that must be completed within a maximum of three years and that have the potential to quickly spawn larger follow-up projects. That's why we are explicitly calling for ‘high risk, high gain’ project proposals that prize learning from (fast) failure over incremental success.

The project call announcement is now available on our website- applicants may request up to up to €200k from the funding line, which has to be matched by the participating centers with the same amount of money (up to €200k). Please submit your proposal via the Helmholtz AI project portal. The deadline for applications is 17 January 2020. After a swift, external review process we aim for funding decisions in April 2020.

We are hoping that our project call will help you to develop enriching partnerships and exciting new project ideas and we are looking forward to receiving your project applications. In case of questions please contact projectsnoSp@m@helmoltz.ai.
