Boosting data science careers at the Helmholtz virtual data science career day

More that 2,000 registered participants for Helmholtz's first virtual data science career day

The Helmholtz Virtual Data Science Career Day, the first virtual career fair for data science organised within the Helmholtz Association, took place last Wednesday, September 23rd withmore than 2,000 registered participants. Throughout the day, there were 547 attendees from over 80 countries overall, more than 1,300 visits to the conference sessions and 12,000 booth visits in total.

This event, powered by HIDA, targeted data scientists looking for exciting PhD, postdoc or other positions in applied data science, and put them in touch with 22 exhibitors representing the Helmholtz Information & Data Science ecosystem, which includes Helmholtz AI. At our dedicated booth, hundreds of attendees were able to gather information about Helmholtz AI's model and job opportunities, and to get in touch with the team for advice on how to advance their careers in artificial intelligence and machine learning.

The conference program, featuring keynotes by renowned researchers Xiaoxiang Zhu (member of the Helmholtz AI steering board and the Helmholtz AI local unit @ DLR), and Uwe Ohler (MDC Berlin), focused on sharing experiences about building a career in applied data science within the different Helmholtz research fields: health, Earth and environment, energy, matter, space, aeronautics and transport and information. You can find the conference sessions on the HIDA-Youtube channel

Prof. Dr. Otmar D. Wiestler, president of the Helmholtz Association, also gave a speech on the day, highlighting that: "Data scientists have the skills that have become so critically important for solving the research questions on which we are working at Helmholtz. (...) We support scientists in achieving data science expertise. We’ve established HIDA and 6 regional schools that make up Germany’s largest graduate training network in information and data science".
