Through the new voucher system, Helmholtz AI consultant teams can provide support with their deep expertise in AI methods, tools and software engineering for research projects. There are two voucher categories: Exploration vouchers (running up to two weeks) are for initial consulting, that means working with an AI consultant to discuss and develop a plan for realisation. Realisation vouchers (running up to six months) are for specific, already defined support. 

Voucher proposals can be submitted by any Helmholtz researcher via the official online platform (implemented with the support of HIFIS, based on the backend of their helpdesk). They undergo a fast review (usually less than three weeks) and, if accepted, a collaboration often starts right away.  Once a voucher reaches its end, a final report is issued and, if needed, researchers can apply again for a follow-up voucher.

With the Helmholtz AI voucher system, Helmholtz AI further broadens its funding and cooperation offer, which already includes the annual Helmholtz AI project call. Throughout 2019 and 2020, several pilot vouchers have successfully been carried out at the Helmholtz AI local units, proving the usefulness and efficacy of this innovative support system.
