33 proposals submitted for the 2021 Helmholtz AI project call

The aim of the Helmholtz AI projects is to strengthen the application and development of applied artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) for “high-risk, high-gain" research projects.

The 2021 Helmholtz AI project call closed on 1 December 2021 with 33 submitted project proposals. Of the 18 Helmholtz centers, Helmholtz AI received proposals from 17 centers. After an external review process, funding decisions are expected by the end of Q1 2022.

The aim of the Helmholtz AI projects is to strengthen the application and development of applied artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) for “high-risk, high-gain" research projects. In the 2019 and 2020 calls, a total of 36 collaborative projects were selected. We are excited about showcasing updates from these projects in the coming weeks. Check out the two that are already out: AI to apply precise Radiation Therapy and Machine learning techniques to help better understand plant health.

Each project can receive funding of up to €400,000 (or more) for a period of two to three years after being reviewed and receiving a funding recommendation by an international review panel.
